Uranus
Type: Ice giant planet
Mass: 8.7 × 10^25 kg
Position in the Solar System: 7
Distance from the Sun: 2.9 billion km
Uranus was the first planet discovered in modern times using a telescope. It is distinguished by its extreme tilt, its rotation axis tilted 98°, causing it to almost roll in its orbit.
Fun fact: Discovered in 1781, Uranus was almost named "Georgium Sidus" ("George's Star") in honor of King George III of England. The name was eventually changed to Uranus, after the Greek sky god Ouranos, which permanently anchored the planet in the firmament... rather than Buckingham Palace.
