Mars

Type: Terrestrial planet
Mass: 6.4 × 10^23 kg
Position in the Solar System: 4
Distance from the Sun: 220 million km

Mars is the second smallest planet in the Solar System, both in size and mass. It is a particularly interesting object to observe when it is at opposition, at its closest to Earth, an event that occurs every 2 to 3 years.

Fun fact: Mars is home to Olympus Mons, the largest mountain and the highest volcano in the Solar System, reaching an altitude of nearly 22 km. Its base extends over 600 kilometers in diameter, a dimension made possible by the absence of plate tectonics on this planet.
